Re: Making your own flash cards

Hi, Bridgett!

I just fininshed Coding and Billing and devised a system with Word and my own manufacturing process. Make a folder and label it "Flashcards". Do this for each body system. You will be printing anywhere from 100-175 terms (includes abbreviations) from each body system (Ashworth Publication)-benefit is two vieewings of each term and definition plus a "flip-card" operation. The process goes as follows:

Cards (Office Max/Office Depot- 3"x 5" with notebook rings at the top-red-yellow-blue-green-80 cards/binder-$2.95 each-includes polastic divieders / 1 plastic cover)

Page 1- TERMS- Insert table of 3 boxes in one column (1 box for each card)-3 cards per page

IUse the "Layout" menu-width = 5.0" heighth=3.0" (3" x 5" index cards)-

Go to "Insert Menu" - insert page numbers

Put as many terms on one card as you wish but I encourage only 1 so you can flip for memorizing

Separate each term with (............)

SAVE IN FILE

..............................................................................................................................................

Page 2-DEFINITIONS Insert table of 3 Boxes in one column-same as page 1

Type the definition of each term on page 1

If you are putting more than 1 definition per card separate using the (.................)

SAVE IN FILE

..............................................................................................................................................

Page 3- (need Magic Tape) empty card grid (page 1 with no printing-this is the processing page)

PRINT-process will vary depending on printer type (HP-4500-prints on underside-the one you don't see)

PRINT PROCESS(use p.3-blanks)

Page 1(Side 1-TERMS)-place a card on each blank(3 cards)-lined side up -holes face top of page-

-TAPE where card ends meet and one at page bottom

                           -Assign the file to "Print"-

-Remove page from printer-keeping cards in same squares

                            -Remove tape from edges

    Page 2 (Side 2-DEFINITIONS)

-Flip cards to the unlined side-HOLES FACING PAGE NUMBER                            -Retape same as for the terms side

                            -Assign definition to print

                            -Repeat process as for terms

-Remove from printer- remove tapes- place card over rings

Repeat for the next 3 terms/definitions (extend to page 3-Terms and page 4-Definitions = 30-50 pages of 3 terms/definitions each for each body section)

Keep a flash drive (16 gbs) plus a back-up drive for all your Ashworth work. On-line testing cannot be copied but all your own work is best kept like this, I have found.

Let me know if you used this method. It is a keeper and portable for any position you may take. It's always nice to have a resource that does not require internet searching.

Best of Luck to you!! cami916@live.com (Cameron)
