kdilorenzoac13,

It is so great to meet others and then find out we have something in common.

I dropped out of HS in 1985 ( my Sr yr) yea I know what the heck was I thinking. In 87 I moved here to Va and was able to get jobs that gave me a finance/purchasing/contract foundation. In 2004 I was laid off from my job; not having a GED and companies were conducting background checks, I was forced to get my GED and yes I was the oldest person in my class . As the years have went by it has been hard to be able to break through that sterotype that since I did not have a degree that I was stupid. I have a daughter that is going to be 24, all through her school years I always pressed that education was important. I am so proud that she took education serious. She is now a graduate of GMU in early childhood education. I also have another daughter that is 10yrs younger than her older sister, my yougest is in special education classes, she has difficulty retaining and processing information so watching her struggle in her basic learning skills has made me think that is why I was so different growing up I learned information differently. So with both my girls I decided I needed to prove to myself I am not stupid and also that education is a long term thing and you never should stop learning.

I applaude that you are committed now to showing your son your commitment and dedication to learning. I truly believe that is what he well rememeber the most about his mom. Keep that fire burning and when that day comes that we both will walk across that stage we can shout "WE DID IT"!!

You have a great day!! Shelley
