Re: Retailers Force Consumers To Pay ‘Swipe Fee’ For Using Plastic. Good Idea? -Online Retail-Sales Group.

I wonder though if the swipe fee would apply to a debit card as it is equivalent to writing a check for cash. It is not the same as a credit card so I don't know if banks charge a fee to businesses for the convenience of you swiping a card rather than holding up a line writing a check. There would be no convenience fee charged on a check and a debit card is in fact a modern-day-check. So, I wonder if this fee would apply to a "check card" because if so, that's charging consumers a fee on money they already have readily available since money in a checking account is not borrowed. In a sense, cash and a debit card (which could be considered a cash card in this sense) would be conidered one and the same since you can easily visit an ATM and withdraw cash. I wonder, I wonder.

This is in response to Katie. I too only carry my Debit Card and I do not use Credit Cards. If I lose the card, so be it.. I quickly cancel it and my money is safe. Carrying cash everywhere will only promote more robberies and violence.
